Stan and I were living aboard our 46′ Fountaine Pajot Bahia Catamaran in Ventura, CA when we decided that instead of finishing the Catamaran to go off cruising, we really wanted different living accommodations. That started our slow winding path that finally brought us to Masterplan. We first had to sell our Catamaran as we certainly did not want to be a two boat owner. That of course took longer then we had hoped but it did sell in August 2011. During that time we looked at boats and decided that a Trawler was the way to go. I think the full size refrigerator, a real couch and walk around bed was all that we needed to see. We actually fell in love with “Kingdom”, a 58′ Hatteras LRC that ended up selling too quickly. Many boats (and many miles looking at boats) later we decided that a 58′ Hatteras LRC was still our love. A few road trips up the CA coast and a road trip from CT. to Ft. Lauderdale added to the twist and turns of this process. We packed up all of our stuff into 2 Pods in November of 2011 and started another road trip from CA to FL. We do need to thank Judy Waldman of JW Yachts as the guiding force behind us and shudder to think of all the mistakes we might have made without her steady hand. Once aboard Masterplan we knew she was the “One”.
Here we are on the Sea Trial for Masterplan
So now the fun begins as we plan a course and see where the path continues to take us…..

Hi Geoff and Cathy
Have you owned Shendoah for 3 years or 5? I think that is one of the boats we were looking at on YW when we first started looking at trawlers. We are in Norfolk now and planning on heading to CT next week, then into Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket area. We would love to get together. We hope to be in Chesapeake the end of September, then slowly head into FL in December with Key West at New Years. Next winter hope is Bahamas so I would love to hear ideas on places to go. Would love to hear about changes you have made and how you have resolved some of the issues with 35 year old boats. I approved your FB friends request and that should help stay in contact. Glad you contacted us.
hi. we also own a 58 lrc #36 shendoah. we are working on our 5rd yr with her. we have completed many upgrades as you have. we new and were friends with your po. hope to get to know you and we can swap some lies.together.
we keep the boat near master plans old slip near baltimore, and have wintered in fla and the bahamas.
Congratulations on your acquisition of the MasterPlan. We purchased our LRC, now named the Windy-i in Nov.,04, took delivery in San Diago and immediately cruised it to Seattle. Our current project is to replace the canvas around the aft salon with a hard enclosure as was done with the Masterplan. The stumbling block has been how to treat the 2 rear corners. We would love to see closeup pictures of the inside and outside of the corners on your enclosure.
Enjoy cruising..
So far so good and full size stainless so no more dumpster diving.
does the refridgerator work?
